If they're trying to share tips for good pictures, why have the lead picture be so bad?

That wasn't their lead, just the one I felt like grabbing.

Yeah I saw that. Some of the others in the article are pretty good, but that's not a good picture IMO. Too much motion blur everywhere.

I kind of like it. It's a flub, but it's a flub that conveys motion.

I admit that before I worked for Speedhunters I rarely shot hot rod shows, but now I actually look forward to them, because I want to get more people interested in more types of car culture to keep them alive.

This is why I <3 Speedhunters. Srsly.

I bought the most expensive lens I own (which admittedly, I usually rent lenses, since I can't come close to justifying some of these things while this is a hobby, but that's a different story) to shoot car shows. Canon EF-S 10-22. Makes it easier to get in close, in front of the crowds and shoot an entire car. Catch is you obviously get some barrel distortion in the photos, so you just play into that a bit.

Gotta say I agree with the part about getting there early. I was lucky enough to get an exhibitor pass for the Detroit Autorama. It was awesome to get there at like 5 am and be able to walk through the show a few hours before gates opened, and be able to see everything while no one was in the way. The only other people there were the guys getting their cars cleaned for that day's show. It was great.

If I took it, I'd think it's a really cool accident. But in an article about taking great car show pictures, I'm not sure it's a great fit.
